In a captivating spot in the North Georgia Mountain’s Aska Adventure Area, you will come upon a nearly 3,000 square foot home that is not too big or too small. It has some of the region’s best views of the lush national forest and Blue Ridge Mountains, as well as easy access to all of the popular surrounding activities. This is Baby Bear Lodge and it will have you feeling ‘just right.’
Reflecting the endearing childhood nickname of the owners’ daughter, Baby Bear Lodge’s name also proved to be appropriate given its position over a preserved, Wildlife Management Area. Spend some quiet time on the home’s magnificent three levels of outdoor space. Think of them as your own personal “observation” decks for viewing nature and for sightings of deer, wild turkeys, fox, coyote, and of course, baby black bears. The expansive main-level deck runs the entire width of the home and offers many great seating areas, most notably the dining area and a delightful screened-in porch offering an outdoor living room with rock fireplace. Another outdoor fireplace is at the far end of this deck’s open section and is also closest to, and accessible from the main floor master bedroom.
Inside, Baby Bear Lodge is a real hand-hewn log home decorated in rustic, but comfortable furnishings. An oversized chenille couch, big leather ottoman and recliner chair along with Amish rockers are perfectly placed on a traditional wool area rug and around the main floor hearth. The open floor plan invites all guests to mingle and share. The fully-stocked kitchen with granite counters and large island with barstools inspire home cooked meals and lively laughter occurs as guests chatter around the dining table for four just a few feet away. The entire great room has loads of great light. Windows on all sides of the house overlook the pristine panoramas and the vaulted living room’s second-story picture windows let you gaze up at passing clouds.
All of the home’s bedrooms are peaceful retreats not only because of their mountain views but also because they are constructed with dry wall and painted in soothing, earthy colors. Each of the four bedrooms have perfectly color-coordinated bedding which add to the spa-like feel. The main floor master has access to the deck, a sitting area and a king size bed along with a large private bathroom fit for royalty. Two bedrooms and a bathroom are on the upper level and adjoin a second living area that has a loft with a pull out sofa, work area and board games. One of the upstairs bedrooms even has its own covered balcony and the final bedroom is on the downstairs level with its own bathroom and deck access.
Downstairs there is also a cheerful gameroom with regulation billiards table, foosball, electronic darts, 42” Plasma TV with three theater seats, plentiful movie selection and a high-end stereo with 5 Disc Changer. Just steps away is a hot tub and two Adirondack chairs for lazing the evening away.
In fact, Baby Bear Lodge is a home worthy of hibernation as it’s a true vacation getaway. While the surrounding Aska Adventure Area will beckon you out for mountain style adventures, the comforts of Baby Bear Lodge call you back to rest, relax and recharge.
